this has to be the strangest and most shocking death in music history. "dimebag" darrell abbot, formerly of pantera, was murdered onstage. as if that wasn't bad enough, his older brother, vinnie abbot, is the drummer in his current band, damageplan. i'm from the heavy metal school of guitar, and frankly, pantera reinvented the book on it. so whether i like it or not, dimebag has had an influence on my playing, no matter how far away from thrash metal i go in my advancing age. so i'm kind of sad about the whole matter. although it's fitting in a weird way that it took a hail of gunfire to get him to stop playing, but still tragic and senseless.

ARGH!!

i hate the network at redeemer. erica was kind enough to proofread my paper for me, but because of the network being down, i couldn;t download the message to make the revisions. so i had to hand it in as is. hopefully it was a good paper to begin with...

and this is only reinforcing my decision to find somewhere off-campus to live next year. a friend of mine told me she found a place near meadowlands, which is within walking and biking distance easily. so i'm looking forward to that.

in materialistic news, i want a new laptop. i'm going to attempt to use spartacus (my current windows 98 laptop) for note taking next semester, but I have doubts that it wiull hold up. if i'm living off campus, i'll need something like a laptop to keep my life semi-organized and so I don't feel too detatched from my living space, like i did when i lived at home. come to think of it, living at home might not be such a bad idea. wait... younger brother still in high school? bad idea.

i have a date on wednesday evening. more details to come.

i saw muse on sunday night. amazing. the opening band sucked and was only memorable for some anti-bush remarks the bassist made (the only real response they got from the crowd, too). muse were amazing. they're really tight live, and matt bellamy has an amazing voice. he NAILED even the highest falsetto notes and managed to hold them. he MUST be professionally trained. and he's definitely classically trained on piano. he made that piano his bitch...

AND... i met the drummer before the show. he was very nice and a snappy dresser to boot

and my blind date is...
a first year named teresa. i guess they were going for non-exact matches...

the bodbook takes some of the risk (or fun, depending on your point of view) out of blind dates, but i'm still kind of excited. although given my history of blind dates (i have a tendancy to really, really, REALLY strike out...) i should probably be a bit more wary. i'[ve been on (thinks) four blind dates. the most successful one lead to i think one phone call from me after and then nothing. and the worst saw me completely abandoning all hope of conversation 10 minutes in. and if you're a regular reader of this blog, you'd know that my normal dates tend to go only slightly better...

i told my story in theatre class today. there were some really heavy ones, so mine seemed kind of like fluff, but it was nice to end on a lighter note than a really intense one.

i saw erica today. i missed her. so it was really good to hear. hannah and i cleared the air about things last night, and i'm glad we did (as awkward as the conversation was at the time). also, yesterday i signed up for the redeemer blind date bonanza. basically, you submit information about yourself and then get hooked up with someone with similar interests. if they go with the SAME interests, i'll be paired with amy binder for sure. not sure i really want that. i don't really want to go on a blind date with someone i know that well. ot completely defeats the purpose of a blind date. if they go with more vague criteria, i haven't got a clue about who i'll be paired with. the great irony is that 75% of guys graduate from redeemer either married or engaged. and this appears to be an attempt to crank it up to 100% whether they admit ot or not. bible colleges tend to work as dating services more than academic institutions. this one just takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. but hey, an excuse to meet someone new is an excuse to meet someone new.
