| | this has to be the strangest and most shocking death in music history. "dimebag" darrell abbot, formerly of pantera, was murdered onstage. as if that wasn't bad enough, his older brother, vinnie abbot, is the drummer in his current band, damageplan. i'm from the heavy metal school of guitar, and frankly, pantera reinvented the book on it. so whether i like it or not, dimebag has had an influence on my playing, no matter how far away from thrash metal i go in my advancing age. so i'm kind of sad about the whole matter. although it's fitting in a weird way that it took a hail of gunfire to get him to stop playing, but still tragic and senseless. |
